White Zulu
Een introductie van het gerenomeerde zaadhuis "Burpee W.Atlee & co" uit Philadelphia (USA) rond 1887. Ze ontdekten deze mooie variëteit rond 1884 op een markt in de Amerikaanse staat Rhode Island en meer bepaald in Newpont.
Omwille van de grote witte peulen en de zwarte zaden werd hij ‘White Zulu’ genoemd.
Het is een staakprinses met zeer brede, lange en vlezige witte peulen met een uitstekende opbrengst.
“…three years ago we found in Rhode island a very distinct and handsome pole bean in the possession of a market gardener near Newpont. Obtaining the entire stock, we have grown it with great satisfaction and now have pleasure in introducing Burpee’s White Zulu as a most valuable New pole Bean.It is so named because of the mammoth size of its white pods and the yet blackness of its dry beans…the pods are remarkably handsome, of a waxy appearance, nearly pure white in color, very broad and very fleshy and perfectly stringless…”
